Athens Visitors Center Partners with DHR School Supply Project

Athens, AL - The Athens-Limestone County Visitors Center is proud to announce that they have partnered with Athens-Limestone County Department of Human Resources (DHR) to participate as a collection point for the 2011 DHR School Supply Project.  Drop off hours will be from 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, at the Visitors Center located at 100 North Beaty Street.

DHR will have their distribution day on August 9th from 7:00AM-7:00PM. Parents who need supplies for their children must have an open case—Food Stamp or Family and Children service case with DHR.

They need to call their social or caseworker for a referral ahead of time
.

DHR will never turn down school supplies, there are always late comers coming in and there will be children that come into care throughout the year that need them.

“We hope that by providing a convenient and easy access drop off location in Athens, we will help our community in their efforts to support DHR School Supply Project.  It’s a great opportunity for the Visitors Center to continue serving our community by helping collect schools supplies for area teens and children,” says Cayce Lee, Athens-Limestone County Visitors Center Social Media Cultivator.

The DHR school supply project benefits foster children, protective service children and children in the food stamp caseloads.  DHR builds bags of supplies based on a child's grade and school list.  They helped over 930 children last year through donations of supplies and money received from the community.
