1st Annual Sipin
Cider
The 1st
Annual Sipin Cider sponsored by Spirit of Athens brought
Christmas excitement to the Athens Square Saturday night.
Several downtown merchants and restaurants stayed open late to
give a little extra shopping time to their customers and some
Christmas cheer, or I should say “Cider”. The event offered
bragging rights to the best ‘Cider’ recipe along with the
traditional ‘Loving Cider Mug’ to be placed proudly in the
winners place of business. Each customer rated at least 5 of the
recipes on a scale of 1-5 and turned in their ballot before they
left for the evening. The customers would also be entered for
door prizes offered by the businesses with their properly filled
out and deposited ballots.
While
shopping customers were also invited to roast marsh mellows and
listen to the angelic sounds of the Clements Baptist Church
Worship Choir and Orchestra’s Musical performance of "Hope Is
Born, Emmanuel" directed by Glenn Price.
The
Athens Dulcimer group played inside Village Pizza, serenading
the customers with Christmas favorites while they enjoyed their
meal.
There
were crafts for the children from Gingerbread men to decorate
with the help from Dental Associates of Athens and Dr. Jeremiah
Harris’ staff to face painting in Pimentos. Pablo’s on Market
was helping children make marsh mellow Snowmen, while Hyatt and
Sims and U. G. White’s assisted the children in making Christmas
Tree ornaments. Friends of Ripley brought the Grand Prize
Winning float for exhibition and Clint Carlisle of D D Majestic
Carriage brought his magnificent Clydesdale and exquisite white
carriage to give rides around the square.
Letisha
Brinkley owner of Brinkley Ink, gave each participating merchant a
complimentary Sipin Cider t-shirt. Brinkley who is also a Spirit
of Athens Board Member and Promotions Chair said of her first
event, “this was great, but next year’s will be even better!”
