When I booked this particular event I knew what kind of people I was dealing with.  Gary and I had played basketball together for years.  He's always been know as a stand up guy and could shoot the 3 as good as anybody in the state.  His wife Jan Matthews, I really had never meet, but heard good things about her.  These two individuals came up with a scholarship fund to help those students that may not be at the top of there class, but are far from under achievers.

This was not only a scholarship banquet this was a worship experience.  The choir gave a selection that started it all.  I started to put down my camera and join in with the rest who were lifting hands of praise and rejoicing in the spirit.  These 19 young men and women, I don't think, were expecting this type of celebration.  Once that selection was over the Master of Ceremony, Mr. Kenny Anderson, took the event by the wheel.  If you don't know Mr. Anderson, the one thing you will hear about him, is that he cares about his community.  This Scholarship Fund showed me that it was truly the work of the lord.

This gymnasium was packed out and had many community leaders within its mist.  Mayor of Athens, School Board Officials, City Council, but what grabbed my attention was the testimony of one of there own.  Now a  lawyer in the State of Alabama.  She told her story of struggles, triumph, and more struggles before getting where she is today.  I saw how attentive the recipients were as she told this magnificent story.  It was the perfect story for anyone that may be ready to give up.

Gary and Jan have hearts of gold and as we were wrapping up the individual portraits before the ceremony started.  I listen to Jan giving the recipients assurance that they could call on her if they needed.  Yes, this is serving anytime you put the needs of others before your own.  I encourage you to don't give up, but continue to do what God strengthens you to do.  You were blessed to see the 7th year of what has been a blessing to many kids and when you need to be encourage.

I have 19 pictures with 19 smiles from 19 individuals that showed by being there they appreciate you.  Thanks for allowing me to be apart of this wonderful occasion. May God bless you and keep you is my prayer.  Peace........Ron Corn
