Relay for Life had 44 teams to
register this year. The goal was to raise $98K for this year's race, at
last count the total was $85K. Not a bad amount with the terrible
tornados effecting so many lives plus the rain on Friday night also kept
many away to lower the amount we generally collect on walk night, but
overall it was a big success. The money may continue to be collected and
reported thru August 2011.
Out of the 44 teams there were
only 8 tents left after the rain and bad weather started to move in
around 9:30PM. Those teams of people stayed with their tents into the
wee hours of the morning. Co-Chairperson Debbie Rutherford said, "It
made my heart feel very good to see the dedication of those huddled in
the tents, taking their turn to ensure that someone was walking from
their teams at all times." "The final lap was quite special to watch."
Those who have survived cancer
begin the event with all walking the track, followed by family and
friends joining in, afterwards it is up to each team to keep a member on
the track at all times. The event featured live entertainment by
Jimmy Gilliam, Dance Trance, Michael Dean & Memphis and Brad Pullam &
Friends.
Remember there is no finish line until we
find a cure!
