March 2 was Read Across America Day as well as Dr. Seuss' birthday.  To promote reading in Athens and Limestone County, the Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library held 3 events on March 2nd.

1.Mayor Ronnie Marks read Cat in the Hat to the Head Start class at Athens Elementary School.

2.Frank Travis as Cat in the Hat and Craig Beasley as Thing 1 and Cathy Beasley as Thing 2 entertained the Tanner Head Start classes at Tanner Head Start.  Frank led the children in songs and then read Cat in the Hat to the classes.  Thing 1 and Thing 2 assisted in acting out the story.

3.Frank Travis and Thing 1 and Thing 2 entertained the Elkton Road Head Start classes.  The Hokey Pokey was lots of fun for everyone.

The Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library gave each child in these classes their own copy of Cat in the Hat in an effort to instill a love of reading in the children.
