Our Athens American Legion Post 49 held
their annual pancake breakfast on Saturday October 29th. The all
you can eat $5 breakfast it the spot for many of the guest who
were on their way to the Storytelling festival afterwards.
Others were picking up breakfast for their family and still
another group was enjoying breakfast with family they don't see
often while supporting a great fundraiser for the Post.
Post 49 has been an active participant
in the life and development of Athens and Limestone County. They
have for many years organized programs for patriotic events and
promote Americanism by organizing or participating in activities
that promote good citizenship, particularly among young people.
The American Legion stands for a strong America, and there is no
better way to bring this about than to work with our youth and
to help prepare them for their role as future citizens and
leaders of America. In order to do these type projects they
raise funds by hosting a monthly Chicken Stew on the 3rd Tuesday
of each month and with the annual Pancake Breakfast.
Post 49 was constructed in 1999;
however, it has existed since 1920. It was re-chartered by the
national headquarters on December 23, 1929 and re-named for
Carlisle B. Grisham. Comrade Grisham was a popular young man who
lost his life in The Great War (WW I).
