The old restored Veto Church hadn't heard the likes of what took place on Saturday afternoon in many a day! Maybe this old beautiful sanctuary had never heard the collage of music which was performed, a little country, a little gospel, some blues and some Opera!

Arriving at the Veto Church where roughly 24-30 guest are enjoying the crisp weather and the colorful foliage and awaiting the musical evening.

David Harwell, professor of communications at UAHuntsville and new Veto resident, welcomed everyone and introduced the gentlemen on the Church stage;

The "Opera Cowboy" Mr. Eric Jordan of New York is a exceptional opera performer and is known for his baritone-rich sound of various degrees. His mixture of Johnny Cash songs were totally outstanding and he even gave us a sampling of his Operatic abilities Saturday.  Here is what has been said about Jordan's talent: "Jordan is a phenomenal performer known for his trademark "big bass and presence to match" (Opera News) with vocal quality described as "a resonant, ringing tone" (St Louis Post-Dispatch), wherein his "powerful, nuanced singing and thoughtful acting amounted to a wholly remarkable portrayal" (The New York Times)."

On guitar was Gary Compton owner of The Red Caboose in Elkmont.
The Red Caboose is located in Historic Downtown Elkmont and brings in some amazing talent from Nashville as well as local. Gary and his wife Linda provide a comfortable atmosphere for some of today's best song writers to perform their material and open to the public.

Also on guitar and singing some of his and Gary's material was Daniel Jones a native of Elkmont. Jones has been writing his own material and singing for many years. He has written over some 600 songs and has several songs recorded. Compton and Jones performed their song "Beautiful State of Mind" at the North Alabama Songwriters Regional Contest where they finished in the top 3.

Curtis Lindsay accompanied the group on the keyboard. Lindsay is a UAH graduate and lives in Athens.

Harwell lives next to the Church and hopes to have the group back for an annual performance. After the concert he invited the guests to stay for steaks on the grill and more music!

The Opera Cowboy performed October 27 at University Center Exhibit Hall in UAH. To learn more of Eric Jordan performances go to the UAH website  www.theater.uah.edu
