Athens State University hosted the December
Chamber of Commerce Coffee in the historic Founders Hall. The
parlor was beautifully decorated for Christmas and was
complemented by the presenting of a representative from each
local High School as their Ms. Merry Christmas. Ms. Merry
Christmas is a senior selected from each High School as their
representative in the annual Christmas Parade.
The representatives present at the Chamber
Coffee are listed below as they are presented in the photos
above.
Elkmont School’s Ms. Merry Christmas for 2010 is
Madison Hogan. Her parents are Joel & Tina Hogan of Elkmont.
Madison is involved FCCLA (Family Career Community Leaders of
America). Madison also volunteers at Athens Limestone Hospital.
Her future plans after graduation is attend to UAHuntsville for
a degree in radiology.
Anna Lee Black is proud to represent East Limestone as their Ms.
Merry Christmas. Anna Lee is the daughter of Dennis and Laura
Black of East Limestone. She is currently active in Volleyball,
Basketball, Soccer, and is a Cheerleader. Anna Lee is also a
member of 1st National Bank Student Advisory Board, Senior Beta
Club,
Spanish Club, Physics Club, L.O.V.E., F.F.A., S.G.A. Secretary,
Science Club, and Ranked number 1 of 162 in the senior class.
After graduation Anna Lee will be attending The University of
Alabama and has been accepted into the honors program in the
College of Engineering.
Mackenzie Hicks is the Ms. Merry Christmas representative for Ardmore High School. Mackenzie’s parents are Leslie and Bill Currin. She is involved in the Math Club and the AL/TN Chamber
of Commerce Youth Ambassadors. Mackenzie plans to attend Ole
Miss after graduation to pursue a career in journalism.
Summer Kirk is the Clements High School Miss Merry Christmas
representative. She is the daughter Barry and Pam Kirk. Summer
has two brothers, Jonathan and Ryland. She has attended Clements
High School since kindergarten. Summer is a member of the
varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball teams. She is a
member of the Beta club, Math club, SIO club, Science club, and
Pep club. After graduation she plans to attend Southern Union
College.
Misty Johnson is representing Faith Christian Academy as their
Ms. Merry Christmas. Misty’s grandparents are Bertha and James
Johnson. She is active in volleyball and is a cheerleader. She
is planning to go to Calhoun then to a Bible college to be a
missionary with her elementary education degree.
Mary Beth Russell of West Limestone High School represents her
school as their Ms. Merry Christmas. Her parents are David and
Leisha Russell. She is a member of the Jr. Civitan, SADD, FBLA,
Skills USA, Leo Club, Student Government, and HAFF. Mary Beth is
active in mainly cheerleading, and being involved in her church.
Mary Beth’s future plans are to go Mississippi College and major
in business. After she graduates college she plans to own her
own hair salon. She also enjoys hanging out with her friends and
family.
Victoria Sims is the Ms. Merry Christmas representative for Athens High School.
Victoria is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Sims. Her
activities are a 3 year member of Student council where she is
the current secretary, 3 year member of SADD as the current Vice
president, captain of the volleyball team, 3 year member of
National Beta Club, 2 year member in Spanish Club, 4 year member
of Pi Beta Sigma Service sorority where she is the treasurer,
Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program, Fellowship of
Christian Athletes and she Volunteers at Camp Hope. She received
Volleyball Awards Athens Optimist all Tournament team and All
Area, and Leadership Award. She is planning on attending Calhoun
College and transferring to the University of Mississippi.

Representing Athens Bible School for their Ms. Merry Christmas
is Aubrey Hagewood. Aubrey has been on the Varsity Cross Country
team 4 years, Cross Country stats 1 year, Varsity Baseball stats
6 years and Varsity Girls Basketball Stats 2 years. She was
elected to Homecoming Court her junior and senior years. Aubrey
was elected by faculty and staff as DAR Good Citizen
representative, a class officer 2 years, Drama Club 1 year, Beta
Club 6 years and Above and Beyond Club 1 year. Aubrey finds time
to volunteer at Boys and Girls Club plus works part-time at Gray
and Holt for 2 years.
Limestone County Technical Center’s Ms. Merry Christmas
representative is Jessi Roberts of Tanner High School. Jessi is
seventeen years old, a Christian and enrolled in the Health
Science program at the Tech School. Her parents are Kristy McCay
and Barry Roberts. She is the granddaughter of Linda and Bud
Hill. She enjoys fishing, hunting, volunteer work, and helping
her Paw around his farm. Jessi is the Historian/Reporter of HOSA
(Health Occupations Students of America) and the President of
SADD (Students against Destructive Decisions) She plans to
attend Calhoun and transfer to UNA to pursue a bachelors degree
in Nursing.
Shakira Lovett of Tanner High School. Shakira’s parents are
Albert and Willie Lovett. She is the point guard on Tanner’s
varsity basketball team. She is a member of Big Brother Big
Sister, FCCLA and the Prom committee. After graduation Shakira
plans to attend UAB to become a dental hygienist.
AthensPlus wishes all these exceptional young ladies all the
best in their future endeavors. Their accomplishments thus far
have been amazing, and is only the beginning of their brilliant futures.
