The winners of the raffle at Bradford Pawn were Chris Jackson and Randy Clanton, both employees at  Browns Ferry Nuclear  Plant. People may still Donate to the Cause!

Amy C Lumpkin

Hi! Many of you already know that this year, I'll be participating in a very special event called the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure.

I'll walk 60 miles over the course of three days with thousands of other women and men. Net proceeds from the Komen 3-Day for the Cure are invested in breast cancer research and community programs. Virtually every major advance in breast cancer in the last 25 years has been impacted by a Susan G. Komen grant.

I've agreed to raise at least $2,300 in donations. Wow! That's a lot, but so is 60 miles in a 3 day period. But that is why I signed up for this. I wanted to do something big, and this is the biggest and boldest event in fund raising for breast cancer. We've had several successful fund raising events as a team, but we haven't quite met our goal. So now I am asking for help. Would you please consider making a donation? If you donate $25 before August 2nd, we will enter your name in a drawing for a $500 store credit at Bradford's Jewelry and Pawn, located in Athens.

You can give on line at www.The3Day.org  or print out a donation form to send in by mail. Just follow the link below to visit my personal fund raising Web page and make a donation. You can also call 800-996-3DAY to donate over the phone or contact me to donate in person. Please feel free to forward this link to anyone you think may be interested helping us reach our goal and donating to this cause.

Please remember to contact me & donate by August 2nd if you are interested in the drawing for the $500 credit at Bradford's Jewelry and Pawn.

One person is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes in the United States. That's why I'm walking so far. To do something bold about breast cancer. Thank you in advance for your help!
Sincerely,
Amy

I am so excited to be a part of this event! Thanks for visiting my personal page. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so here, or print out a donation form to mail in. If you are donating in honor of or in memory of someone, please include that person's name! We have several fundraisers in progress, so if you are interested in any of them let me know. Don't forget, you can always join our team!!

Why I'm Walking

My team captain, Amy, has wanted to walk in the 3day for several years, and has encouraged me to join her in the past. Two things kept me from the commitment: 3 days away from my girls, and raising $2300. But this year, when she mentioned the event again, we both signed up within a few minutes.

Fundraising ideas came flooding in, and we have been excited ever since. So, why do I want to walk this year? Because I can! I am not sick. I have not been diagnosed with any type of cancer. I am walking for those who have lost the battle, for those who are still fighting, and for those who may face it in the future. Why shouldn't I?
I am approaching my 36th birthday and I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful children. Susan G. Komen was 36 years old when she lost her battle with breast cancer and she left behind a husband and two small children. This walk is helping to make her dying wish a reality.

Instead of asking "Why?" I just asked "Why not?". I am perfectly capable of helping in the fight against breast cancer, so this year I will participate in the boldest event in history.

Updates

05/28/10 We have the most amazing friends and family! Our Kiddie Carnival event was not only a success, but we had a great time. We couldn't have pulled it off without our moms, dads, siblings and of course Papaw Fred! We cannot show enough gratitude to the Athens Lions Club. Walking 60 miles in 3 days won't be easy, but we can certainly use the hard work and dedication of the Lions Club members to inspire us not to give up. We continue to be amazed at the outpour of support we receive for this great cause!
07/20/10 Our current fund raiser is a raffle for a $500 store credit at Bradford's Pawn & Jewelry. Tickets are $25 each and only 100 will be sold (if we can sell that many). Two drawings will be held, so that increases your chances of winning! Just to make it easy for you, we will enter your name into the drawing if you make a $25 donation by August 2nd. Donate here, or contact me to donate in person :)
Keychains are still being sold, too. Let us know if you are interested in buying one. They make great gifts and look really cute as zipper pulls on bags and back packs!
