The homecoming festivities began at 6:30PM
Friday night with the
Athens State University Community Band under the
direction of Dan Havely. The band was founded in 2003 by Dan
Havely primarily as an outlet for former Athens State
University students to continue in their musical pursuits.
They graciously play at local events, graduations ceremonies
and formal concerts.
The evening finished with a 'Retro Prom' and
the Valley Cats playing songs from the 60's-80's. That's
when the crowd started singing and dancing in the streets.
The Valley Cats are a local band of performers: Bill & Tina Swindell, Steve
Weber, Keith Taylor, Greg Young & Whitney Hubbs.

Tourism was instrumental in scheduling these events as well
as the events on Saturday. Thank you Jeanette for all your
diligent work you due for our tourism in Athens and bringing
activities such as these to our town.
