Athens “Haunts Walks” Will Intrigue Visitors
Athens residents have heard the stories. The
story about the college student who fell to her death
sneaking out to meet her lover and is said to still be
wandering Founders Hall at Athens State University. Or the
story of Rev. Robert Donnell holding his bible study class
in the parlor of the Donnell House, over 150 years after his
death.
Whether you believe in ghost stories or not, these stories
have been told for generations and are only a sample of what
visitors will learn during the Athens’ Historic Haunts Walk,
October 5th, 12th,14th and
19th at 7:00 PM. The walking tour,
sponsored by The Greater Limestone County Chamber of
Commerce, will intrigue visitors with tales of paranormal
activity in residences and buildings.
Storyteller Shane Black will delight the
group with lore and history as they stroll throughout
Athens’ historic district. The 90-minute walk will entertain
both believers and non-believers. In the tranquility of the
night Shane will share the details of the “
"Tales of Athens”.
“Will you see a spirit, poltergeist, or ghost? Who knows?
It’s an unforgettable haunted evening of spooky fun for all
ages. This is a story telling tour, not a haunted house.
Nothing is staged and no one will jump out and try to scare
you. If anything happens on your tour, it is truly
paranormal in nature. This is our alternative for
celebrating Halloween without scaring the children or
causing nightmares. Join us for the adventure and see what
happens!” said Tourism Director Jeanette Dunnavant.
The tour will begin at the Houston Memorial Library located
at the corner of Houston and Market Streets. Be sure
and wear your walking shoes and each family should bring a
small flashlight.
This year there will be one riding tour for the physically
impaired on October 8th at 5:30 PM and is limited to eleven.
Participants should meet at the Houston Memorial Library at
5:15 PM for refreshments before boarding the RSVP bus.
Reservations are required and tickets are available for $5
at the Chamber or by calling 232-5411
