Tuesday afternoon, Governor Riley spoke to the 150 plus people in attendance at the Ballroom of the Athens State University to show his support for Mayor Dan Williams for the Alabama House of Representatives. He began by saying, "someone mentioned to me today that this is a very important election." The Governor said, "this election is probably more important than most of us
realize." He praised Dan Williams asking that each person pledge to talk to everyone including your Sunday school class and tell them how important it is to get a man like this Mayor Williams elected.

When Mayor Williams took the podium among his family and friends, he addressed the question of "Why I want to run for office," and he responded, "I've always wanted to run for legislature, but I've always talked myself out of it, but seeing what's been happening... they really need some help down there and I want to be a part of the change that's going to take place in our state."

As he continued, "If you don't take this opportunity to elect new leadership, I think we will have missed the boat, and I don't know when we'll get another opportunity." He exclaimed, "You are the people who will make this decision, I hope you will see fit to consider my candidacy and elect me
and I'll...even carry Kay (Mrs. Williams) with me." As most know, Mayor Dan is always able to liven up a serious moment, his quick wit and passionate heartfelt messages always captivates the audience and then makes us laugh.

His parting statement was very sincere as he stated, "In this room is a great group of people...I ask you to help me be a part of the change for Alabama!" and with a "Thank you," he shook hands with Governor Riley and thanked all for attending.

Also attending this event was Bill Holtzclaw, candidate for the State Senate District 2, and Brian Jones candidate for Limestone County DA.
