There was a grand opening and ribbon cutting held on
Wednesday morning at the new Goody's location, in the previous
'Peebles' building in Town Center.
Goody's was located next door to their current location until
2009, when the business closed their family clothing stores
around the country. Now under new ownership, with the familiar
brands and prices, Goody's is back and from the looks of the
more than 150 customers awaiting the doors to open, Athens is
ready and welcomes them wholeheartedly.
The store manager was pleased as she hand out canvas zipper
tote bags to the first 100 plus customers who entered the doors
this morning. Also on hand to welcome Goody's back to Athens was
Matthew Kyle from Chick-Fil-A and his friend Cow, who was
hamming it up for the camera!
Goody’s is operated by Stage Stores Inc. of Houston, Texas.
In 2009, Stage purchased the Goody’s name through the Goody's
bankruptcy auction. The Company began using the Goody's name in
select markets in which there is strong customer awareness and
recognition of the name. The company also operates Peebles,
Bealls, Palais Royal and Stage stores.
