The VJ Day Program is
still scheduled for August 21st at 2:PM at the Athens Senior
Center. The play is written by Jerry Barksdale, Jackie
Greenhaw and produced by Jackie Greenhaw. VJ Day begins in
our current day 2011 and then drifts back to the 1940's for
the celebration of the announcement of when the Surrender of
Japan occurred, effectively ending World War II. In
Washington on August 14, 1945, President Harry S. Truman
announced news of Japan's surrender in a press conference at
the White House by saying "This is the day we have been
waiting for since Pearl Harbor. This is the day when Fascism
finally dies, as we always knew it would."
