August Coffee Call was sponsored by Mayor Ronnie Marks and former City Council member Johnny Crutcher. With roughly 130 guests for breakfast the Museum is always proud to see everyone each month.

The Museum had several visitors in July, the Submariner Veterans toured the Museum as did the Somerville Baptist Church Summer Program in Decatur and a group from Birmingham. Other visitors were from Singapore, the Netherlands and from Germany.

One of the Museum's Saturday Volunteer's passed away suddenly July 23rd. Ryan Parker, 28 years old was a U.S. Army veteran and a student at Calhoun Community College.

The VJ Day Program is still scheduled for August 21st at 2:PM at the Athens Senior Center. The play is written by Jerry Barksdale, Jackie Greenhaw and produced by Jackie Greenhaw. VJ Day begins in our current day 2011 and then drifts back to the 1940's for the celebration of the announcement of when the Surrender of Japan occurred, effectively ending World War II. In Washington on August 14, 1945, President Harry S. Truman announced news of Japan's surrender in a press conference at the White House by saying "This is the day we have been waiting for since Pearl Harbor. This is the day when Fascism finally dies, as we always knew it would."

If you haven't purchased your $10 ticket for this program, you should hurry! There are only a few tickets left and those are dwindling fast! Call the museum at 256-771-7578 and come by to secure your ticket. Also, purchase a ticket for the 'New York Kiss' painting by Karen Middleton.
