Hospice of Limestone County sponsored
Camp Hope, a free one day camp for children ages 5 to 15
years old, on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Camp Helen Baptist
campgrounds. The number of campers attending this year was
79, a record number for Camp Hope!
Camp Hope activities included story
time and memory books, swimming, fishing, a water slide,
face painting, volleyball, and sidewalk chalk. Other
special events provided by groups in the community included
a magic show by Limestone County Career Technical High
School Enrichment students, water bombs provided by Pi Beta
Sigma sorority, and Pet Therapy by Therapy Partners.
A delicious lunch was donated by
various individuals and included grilled hamburgers and hot
dogs, chips, and homemade cookies baked by special
volunteers. Shaved ice was also donated for the afternoon
snacks.
Camp Hope was successful because of the awesome job of our
teen "buddy" volunteers. The buddies' jobs were to listen,
share, talk, and PLAY ! PLAY ! PLAY! with the campers at
Camp Hope. The day ended with a Celebration of Life Service
where families joined us for a balloon release. Jeremiah
McElyea led the service with singing by Kate Bishop.
Campers took home a "feelings pillow," donated by Athens
Quilters' Guild, to remind them of their special day and
special friends while remembering their special person.
None of this would be possible without the wonderful and
continued support of our community!
Thank you to all who participated.
