The North Alabama Volkswagen Club held their 12th Annual Bug’n in July charity car show on Saturday July 16th. This year’s show was held at the beautiful Ingalls’s Harbor in Decatur, Alabama. Proceeds from the show is donated to Crisis Services of North Alabama.

This VW Car Show always delivers dozens and dozens of beautiful vintage and custom Volkswagen vehicles, the classic Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Bus, but this year there was a new visitor among the all the vehicles, one who originated from Australia, the Country Buggy! This Country Buggy, owned by Jerry and Kathy Gober of Hendersonville, Tennessee, is one of only 9 in the United States, it was built in 1968 by VW of Australia. Kathy and Jerry bought the CB in 2009 and completely restored it as they have many VW’s in the past. They currently have a 57 Oval Window Beetle, a 1964 Single Cab Pick Up, 1973 Thing and a 1955 French Blue 550 Porsche Spyder.

The Country Buggy received 1st place in the “Special Interest” category and also took 1st place in the aptly names “What the Heck” award. The Gober’s have taken the Country Buggy across the Eastern states in the Volkswagen Club Shows to win most their classes, but mostly they enjoy folks just trying to determine ‘what the heck’ is this thing, to which they reply “no it’s not a thing, that would be its cousin!”

By the way, Kathy Gober is my sister, so if you want to know more about the Country Buggy, or have a question send me an email and I’ll forward to her.
