Athens State University announces a winter
dinner dance to be held on Saturday, February 16 at 6pm in the
Ballroom of the Sandridge Student Center.
The Sentimental Journey Dinner Dance is
sponsored by the J. Harrison and Robbie Nelle Christopher
Livingston Concert Lecture Series - a series established by Mrs.
Livingston in 2007 providing the University and the Athens
community with educational and social events.
The semi-formal dance will include a
catered dinner with music provided by the Sentimental Journey
Big Band from Huntsville. Proceeds raised by the band will be
donated to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
Dr. Robert Burkhardt, University Librarian
and a trombonist in the band states, “We’ll have music from the
golden big band era in a variety of styles for dancing or
listening enjoyment: waltzes, Latin music, polkas, fox trots,
and slow dance tunes. The event also provides a way to raise
money for the Shriner's Hospitals to benefit children with
orthopedic problems.”
Experienced dancers, novice dancers, or
those just wanting to hear big band favorites are welcomed.
Tickets are $25 per person and reservations may be made by
calling 256-233-8126.
