New Year's Day Hike

These member of the Hobbs Camp of the Sons of Confederate veterans in their traditional New Years day sunrise hike stopped at the Covered Bridge on the Richard Martin Rails to Trails. This is the site of what was known as "Holt's Trestle" during the war for Southern Independence.

Jimmy Hill had an confederate ancestor that was involved in a fight at that location during the war. It is very close to land which that soldier's father had purchased from the young Federal government as soon as land was available for sale after the land was obtained from the Indians.

On the way down the trail to this site, Jimmy had pointed out the family graveyard in which that early settler is buried.
