Roxanne Keyes Haggermaker started the Veterans Parade 4 years ago with only a few floats and cars, this year with a record 126 entries, 2 school bands, cars, floats, tractors, fire engines, military vehicles and 3 horses she is very pleased with her hard work.

East Limestone High School Band along with Tanner High School Band played throughout the entire trek giving the true parade atmosphere. Fire trucks blaring their horns and children & Veterans waving flags from patriotic floats gave purpose and meaning to our reason for honoring our veterans who secures our freedom. The parade was established to honor the duty, sacrifice and service of area veterans of all wars.

The Grand Marshall, Theo Calvin, was all smiles and honored to have been selected. Staff Sergeant Theo Calvin Jr. (89) served in WWII and was a member of the 1st Infantry in 1943 under the guidance of Lt. General George Patton. (read more about Calvin @ www.athensplus.com/veteransdayparade2011_theocalvin.htm )
